The Village was founded in January 2008 and is a 501(c)3 non-profit ministry. Originally, the program housed six men in one home- all coming from the Alabama Department of Corrections and the Jefferson County Jail.
The Village now runs a nine to twelve month intensive faith-based residential program that ministers to men and women- living at multiple addresses near downtown Birmingham.
Participants in the residential program come from:
- The prison system
- Judges who court order them as an alternative sentence
- Parole boards Community Corrections
- Self-check in by those who hear of the ministry
- Referrals from churches and other local ministries
Now, The Village has broadened its focus to address other needs downtown as well…
